Growth & Change

If I had to sum up 2023 in a few short words, it would be growth & change. I know this might sound cliche’, because shouldn’t every year produce growth and change? But this year in particular for me has brought so much of that, which I am very grateful for.
At the end of 2022, I decided to leave my staging company that I had owned for the last 5 years. I had made the decision that interior design gave me the most joy and was at the core of who I am and what I wanted to do in the next phase of my career.
It was scary & exciting all at the same time to start my own design firm, but this year has proven to me that I made the right choice. I have been blessed with some amazing projects and even better, some incredible clients who have trusted me to create & curate their dream homes.
I have learned so much about myself and what I am capable of. I have learned to trust my intuition when it comes to life and even in my work. You know that saying, “usually your first choice will be the one you come back to?” Well, it’s true. When I create, it is typically my first thought or instinct about a space. It may evolve as we work on projects, but being able to visualize a space or a room layout when I first walk in a room is a gift and I have learned to trust those instincts. I also think this is true in life. We get subtle or not so subtle (in my case) nudges that some things need to change in order to be on the right course for our lives. I truly believe that if we listen to these and do the work, which may be really hard, we will see the benefits of being true to who we are and what this life has in store for us. That is what I have seen this year as I stepped out on my own and have created this new business.
I am so excited for all that 2024 has to offer. The firm has some great projects coming up that will produce some beautiful spaces for our clients. And honestly, this is why I love design so much. Getting to create & collaborate with my amazing team and our clients to produce a beautiful home that they can spend time with family and friends in and create wonderful memories is why I do what I do. It’s a pretty special thing to have a talent that I can share with others and create a career around what I love to do.
I am ending this year traveling with my family. My husband and I will celebrate 25 years of marriage at the end of the month and we wanted to spend it with our children celebrating our milestone. This is one more reminder of growth & change as I look back on our marriage and all that we have gone through. Ups & downs, accomplishments and disappointments. Isn’t that what life is about? I look forward to all that 2024 has to offer. The good & the bad, because I know when I look back, I will have grown & changed for the better.
